Overview

The Day Was Ours recreates the first major campaign of the American Civil War in Virginia. The game depicts the First Bull Run battle, where both armies’ inexperience produced an unusually chaotic battlefield environment.

Drawing from General Irvin McDowell’s campaign report, the game highlights how an apparent Union success collapsed into a disorderly retreat after Confederate resistance stiffened.

The Blind Swords system is designed to simulate command uncertainty: units may fail to respond to orders, hold fire due to identification confusion, or simply contribute to battlefield chaos.

The game features early-war appearances of famous commanders such as Sherman, Jackson, Burnside and Johnston.
