Highway to the Reich is a historical wargame depicting Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation of World War II. In September 1944, more than 35,000 troops of the 1st Allied Airborne Army were dropped into the Netherlands with the objective of seizing a chain of bridges and opening a highway toward Germany for the advancing British XXX Corps.

The game recreates the intense fighting between September 17 and September 26, 1944, from the airborne landings to the dramatic battles around Arnhem—an operation later remembered as “A Bridge Too Far.”

At the tactical level, units represent infantry companies, artillery batteries, and armored detachments. The map scale is approximately 600 meters per hex, and each turn represents about two hours of real time.

Players command Allied airborne forces and ground units attempting to advance along the famous “corridor” toward Arnhem while German forces react and attempt to cut the route.

Widely regarded as one of the classic “monster games” of historical wargaming, the design offers a detailed and immersive simulation of one of the most dramatic operations of the Western Front.
