Red Storm: Baltic Approaches is the first expansion for the Red Storm operational air warfare system, depicting a hypothetical NATO versus Warsaw Pact conflict in 1987. This expansion shifts the focus from Central Europe to the Western Baltic Sea and the Danish Straits, one of the most strategically important maritime regions of the Cold War.
The expansion introduces the air forces of Denmark, Sweden and Poland, while adding numerous new aircraft and naval assets for existing nations. Maritime warfare becomes a central feature through the inclusion of naval units, anti-ship missiles, maritime weather effects and new operational challenges unique to Baltic operations.
Players conduct complex air campaigns involving anti-shipping strikes, amphibious support operations, airborne assaults, aerial mining missions, interdiction and suppression of enemy air defenses. Solo scenarios are also included using the Bot system introduced in the core game.
Featured aircraft include:
Naval forces range from cruisers and destroyers to amphibious vessels and missile patrol craft representing both NATO and Warsaw Pact fleets.
