Take the controls of a legendary B-17 Flying Fortress and experience the dangers faced by American bomber crews during World War II missions over Europe.
Flying Fortresses: B-17 Missions Over Europe is an accessible and fast-playing aerial wargame for 1 to 3 players, featuring a dedicated solo system in which an automated BOT controls the German defenses. Each player commands their own “Fort” and must plan the flight route, manage altitude, position the gunners and reach the target before attempting the dangerous journey home.
The game focuses on the tension of daylight bombing missions, with Luftwaffe fighters, anti-aircraft fire, weather and other hazards threatening both the aircraft and its crew.
German defenses are controlled by a BOT/AI system, allowing the game to work smoothly both as a solitaire experience and with multiple players.
German fighters are placed face down on the map during mission setup. When a B-17 enters an Air Zone, the fighters in that zone are revealed. Depending on the die roll, some fighters become active and can move to intercept the bomber.
Players must constantly make tactical decisions:
The game also features a Character Mode, allowing crews to improve through repeated missions. Successful missions improve the gunners' accuracy while the flight crew becomes increasingly capable of avoiding airborne hazards.
The game includes 24 missions, providing a series of bombing operations over Europe.
Missions feature different targets and routes. BoardGameGeek player reports mention missions targeting locations such as Rouen, Saint-Nazaire and Dijon, demonstrating the variety of operations represented in the game.
Success is therefore about more than simply hitting the target. A crew must survive the entire mission and make it safely back to England.
The game includes:
Worthington Publishing also offers an optional double-sized neoprene game board, designed to enhance the multiplayer experience.

Flying Fortresses: B-17 Missions Over Europe offers an accessible take on the dramatic subject of American daylight bombing missions over Europe. It captures the key elements of a B-17 mission — navigation, fuel, fighters, flak, aircraft damage, crew casualties and bombing — without attempting the highly detailed level of simulation found in some dedicated B-17 games.
Its 1–3 player format, automated enemy system and roughly one-hour playing time make it an appealing choice for wargamers looking for an approachable World War II air-combat game.
The addition of Character Mode is particularly interesting for campaign-minded players, as crews can gain experience and become more effective as the war progresses.
