Tigres & Lions is a tactical wargame covering three major battles of the Vendée Revolt of 1793 during the French Revolutionary Wars. It is Volume VII of the Soldiers of the Republic series and recreates the battles of Nantes, Cholet, and Entrammes, fought between Republican forces (“Blues”) and Vendée insurgents (“Whites”).

The game covers the Vendée offensive toward Nantes, the decisive Battle of Cholet, and the Vendée victory at Entrammes during the Virée de Galerne campaign.

Game system

The game uses the Soldiers of the Republic tactical system designed by Matthieu Dangla.

Units represent:

  • Republican infantry formations;
  • Vendée insurgent columns;

Cholet – October 17, 1793

The major battle between approximately 40,000 Vendée troops and Republican forces including Kléber’s veterans of the Army of Mainz.

Entrammes – October 26, 1793

The Vendée counterattack against pursuing Republican forces after the Loire crossing.

Objective

The Republican player must use discipline, artillery, and organization to defeat the uprising.

The Vendée player must rely on mobility, morale, and local knowledge to defeat the Republican armies.
