DESCRIPTION

Yaah! Magazine #6 continues Flying Pig Games' distinctive magazine format: an independent publication dedicated to war and strategy games, featuring a complete wargame in every issue.

This sixth issue offers a broad selection of articles covering historical, fantasy and modern games. Rather than simply summarizing rules or providing conventional reviews, the articles focus on the actual gaming experience, analysis and detailed player impressions.

The magazine is richly illustrated and features the distinctive graphic design of Guillaume Ries.

EDITORIAL CONTENT

Among the main articles:

  • Panzer Grenadier – an examination of the system, including a specially designed Yaah! scenario and after-action report.
  • Stronghold 2nd Edition – a look at the revised edition of the fantasy siege game.
  • They Come Unseen – an analysis of Osprey's submarine and anti-submarine game.
  • Waterloo 200 – a detailed look at the Waterloo game.
  • Next War – a feature covering GMT's modern warfare series.
  • Nuclear Weapons in Wargames – an examination of their use in war games.
  • Pax Pamir – exploring the distinctive pleasures of the “Great Game” design.
  • The US Civil War – an in-depth discussion of the game and the wider genre of American Civil War wargaming.
  • Airborne Commander – a feature on the solitaire deck-building game.
  • Interview with Mark H. Walker, founder and designer at Flying Pig Games.

SCENARIOS AND ADDITIONAL CONTENT

The issue also contains a selection of scenarios and additional material:

  • a Combat Commander scenario featuring Co-Belligerent Italians against SS forces;
  • Riding Shotgun, a scenario for Panzer Grenadier;
  • a scenario combining In the Trenches and Sticks & Stones;
  • Hot Gates, a scenario for Night of Man;
  • three additional scenarios for Shadows in the Weald, introducing a new Hero and a new Hireling type.

THE INCLUDED GAME: LION OF MALAYA

The complete game included with this issue is Lion of Malaya, designed by Arrigo Velicogna.

The game focuses on the defence of Malaya and Singapore in 1941-1942, as British, Australian and Indian forces attempt to resist the Japanese offensive.

Key features include:

  • fatigue rules representing the increasing exhaustion and pressure on the defending forces;
  • air power and its impact on operations;
  • the use and allocation of tanks and anti-tank assets;
  • the desperate strategic situation facing the Commonwealth;
  • demanding Japanese victory conditions, requiring a total victory.

The game includes 84 counters, an 11 × 17-inch map of Malaya and an 8.5 × 11-inch inset map of Singapore. Designer's notes and historical background material are also included.
