The Battles of Napoleon Volume II Mounted Maps are a premium accessory for the second volume of the Battles of Napoleon tactical wargame series, covering the battles of Quatre Bras 1815 and Wartenburg 1813.
These two rigid mounted maps replace the standard game maps and provide a more durable playing surface, making them particularly suitable for regular play.
On June 16, 1815, at the beginning of the Waterloo Campaign, French and Allied forces fought for control of the strategically important Quatre Bras crossroads.
The battle presents players with a classic Napoleonic command challenge: bringing reinforcements into action at the right moment while coordinating formations whose capabilities are restricted by their orders and fatigue.
The scenario includes the possibility of activating the French light cavalry brigade, the potential arrival of d'Erlon's I Corps and special rules reflecting the particular circumstances of the battle.
On October 3, 1813, during the German Campaign, Coalition forces attempted to cross the Elbe at Wartenburg.
General Bertrand's corps, consisting of French, Italian and Baden-Württemberg formations, faced a numerically superior Coalition force.
The scenario places particular emphasis on the difficulties of crossing a river and coordinating attacking formations.
Battles of Napoleon is a tactical wargame series recreating major battles of the Napoleonic era.
The system uses a common set of relatively accessible rules combined with a chit-pull activation system. When a formation is activated, players decide how best to employ their troops.
A formation can be activated several times during a turn, but its effectiveness decreases with each successive activation. Players must therefore constantly balance the opportunity to exploit the battlefield immediately against the need to preserve their formations.
Orders are also an important part of the system. More aggressive orders provide greater opportunities to seize the initiative, but increase the risk of fatigue and army collapse.
The series uses an approximate scale of 150 metres per hex. Infantry units represent battalions, artillery represents batteries and cavalry is represented by regiments. One game turn represents approximately 60 minutes.
The two maps are specifically designed for use with Battles of Napoleon Volume II – Quatre Bras 1815 / Wartenburg 1813.
