One raider against an empire — the hunt spans every ocean on the globe!
The Far Seas is an asymmetric wargame for 1 to 2 players, published by VUCA Simulations, recreating the campaign of the German cruisers at the outbreak of the First World War. In the summer of 1914, eight German cruisers found themselves scattered across the globe — isolated, outnumbered, and cut off from home. What followed was a campaign of commerce raiding, evasion, and naval combat that forced the British Empire to divert considerable resources to hunt them down.
The Far Seas puts you in command of this asymmetric naval struggle.
Take control of the German raiders or the Allied fleets in a tense operational game built around hidden movement, search, and decisive engagements.
Every decision matters — overextend and you risk destruction, hesitate and the enemy slips away.
The system is designed around fast turns, constant tension, and choices that matter:
The core system stays accessible, while still offering real strategic depth for experienced players.
Beyond the core system, the game weaves in several realities that shaped naval warfare in 1914:
These elements sharpen the realism without ever slowing the game down.
As the designer puts it: a game about the success of the raider — and the struggle to stop him.
For fans of operational wargames, naval history, and asymmetric play — and for players who value clear rules paired with strong thematic immersion. Worth noting: The Far Seas revisits, with a modernised system and all-new artwork, the framework of a genre classic first published back in the 1980s.
